Newtons first law of motion states that a body continues to be in its state of rest or of uniform motion, until and unless it is acted upon by a force. In short, it is its inherent nature, to resist change.
I am inertia. And the worst part is that I know every bit of it.

"I would not have any one adopt my mode of living on any account; for, beside that before he has fairly learned it I may have found out another for myself, I desire that there may be as many different persons in the world as possible; but I would have each one be very careful to find out and pursue his own way, and not his father's or his mother's or his neighbor's instead. The youth may build or plant or sail, only let him not be hindered from doing that which he tells me he would like to do. It is by a mathematical point only that we are wise, as the sailor or the fugitive slave keeps the polestar in his eye; but that is sufficient guidance for all our life. ~Walden"

Where's my stand now, huh?

We live with the pain of sacrificing our individual dreams for following the majority. However, not everyone will choose to struggle and blaze a different trail than to suffocate like that.

It's all about the will, isn't it? Another though-provoking post. :)

What a beautiful post packed with so much punch from so many literary bigwigs. It reminded me of Punjabi poet Shiv Kumar Batalvi, who compared life to slow suicide:

very existence of human beings is because of change and its adaptation to changes... coz evolution is nothing but gradual change..
there are no handcuffs holding us... but the inertia that exists in our mentality is what that makes us averse change...
great post as ever :)

To be different or to do something different is like challenging your existence in this mean world. Success or failure, but one thing is for sure, you will love yourself, atleast you had the guts to do something. Thought provoking!

Sometimes people don't follow their dream not because people around them didn't let them pursue their dream but because they thought that people might not let them... That's is the worst thing according to me...

Anything is better than regretting, what say?? :)

Hi, How did I miss this?
Yes, we want and we don't. We desire and we every time we move ahead a few steps, we take back even more.

Why is change scary?
And with me it comes in the smallest of decisions. I know I should break my comfort zone to break the monotony but the fear of tumbling into deeper dredges stops me....

Perhaps if we could eliminate the negativity we could fight the resistance to change!

Personally I hate change just as much as I loathe routine-yes, end is near! :(

It is difficult to resist peer and pere pressure when one is young. Besides, very few have an inkling what they really want to do. Charting one's own course is really difficult and yet, ultimately the only way. I think parents are only just beginning to understand and accept that.
